Location & Map
 Modoc
County is the northeastern county of California and is bounded
on the north by the State of Oregon, on the east by the State
of Nevada, on the south by Lassen and Shasta Counties, and on the west by
Siskiyou County. Modoc County was originally a
portion of Siskiyou County but was erected into a separate
county by an Act of the Legislature of 1874, receiving its
name from the celebrated Indian tribe. The population of Modoc
County is 9,499.
The city of Alturas is located in the South
Fork Valley where the North and South Forks of the Pit River
meet. The elevation of Alturas is 4,446 ft. above sea level
and population is 2,892. The Cascade Mountain Range is about 75 miles to the
west.
There are many communities, towns, and valleys
located in Modoc County.
